Blogger 1.5
About Blogger
Joomla? Blog? People always scratch their heads and wonder why people would blog with Joomla. The answer is simple, Joomla is powerful. We've tried to make it even more powerful with our Blogger package. We've added common blogging tools to our core package, integrated some organizational extensions, and configured it so that right out of the virtual box, you can begin blogging.
Why use this package?
There are many blogging platforms out there, perhaps Wordpress is the biggest contender. Let us not take anything away from Wordpress, instead, remember that Joomla is equal in power to Wordpress. But in the world of content management Joomla wins the awards "Best CMS" time and time again. If you want to blog only, then we suggest Wordpress, nothing beats it. But if blogging will be only one part of your site, then we suggest our Blogger package as it allows you to extend your site to other areas such as communities, e-commerce, and anything else that the Joomla community extends into.
Who is this package for?
Intermediate to advanced users should use this package. Brave newbies can try also. There are some advanced features in this package such as XML-RPC blog creation, which allows for quick posts to your blog via the Scribefire firefox plugin. All features are free and ready to use but in order to get full use of your package, intermediate and advanced users might think about attending a "Building a Joomla Blog" clinic. (There are also clinics that will bring newbies up to speed.)
What is in this package?
Our Blogger package is first and foremost built upon our powerful core package, which includes the latest 1.5 version of Joomla CMS. All advanced SEF, FAQ, and Sitemap tools are included for normal website duties. The blogger package adds common blogging tools configured and ready for you to start blogging upon install. Lets face it, a blog is basically a web site with a lot of nifty tools. We believe in blogging not clogging, so we try to limit the clutter of our packages and only add those extensions that are purposeful.
Blogging has at least three needs that must be met to be successful. A blog must be: quickly updated, well organized, and social. For Speed, we have added an XML-RPC so that you add, edit, and update your blog posts in Scribefire. For Organization, we are using Joomla's default content articles as blog posts which allow you to create any number of sections and categories to organize your content. Once you Understand SEF you can target specific keywords using this organizational scheme which becomes a very powerful ally in the world of SEO. We have also added a tagging component that allows you to create a meta-verse of keywords to organize you articles together. Finally your site needs to be social, for that is the purpose of a blog, to get people into your ideas. We've added a comments component so that people can leave their comments and you can begin a conversation with the world. Social networking and Twitter tools are also included. There are many more features included in this package, check out the package contents for an exhaustive list.
System Requirements and Suggestions
Since our packages are advanced systems they are made to work on the best industry platforms available. Although our packages work on Windows and Mac, they are best used on Linux (which most web servers are running). If you will be running your package on your personal computer make sure you are using the latest versions of PHP, MySQL, and Apache web server. The latest versions will allow you to use all the best features of Joomla. Make sure you are using:
- PHP 5
- MySQL 5
- Apache Web Server
Most hosting companies will give you the option to use PHP4 or PHP5, choose...(you guessed it)...PHP5. If you are unsure of whether your host provides these requirements or you don't have a host try, Dreamhost.
