Closed areas: Burraga Swamp walking track closed

Burraga Swamp walking trackisinaccessible by vehicleuntil further notice, due to theclosure of Mount Allyn Roadin Chichester State Forest as a result of wet weather.

The road will re-open when conditions allow. For more details, please visit the Forestry Corporation NSW websiteor contact the local park office.

Safety alerts: Williams Top Road closed

Williams Top Road has been closed by Forestry Corporation of NSW(FCNSW) due to a landslip. The closure affects access to the following areas in this park:

  • Lagoon Pinch picnic area
  • Corker trail
  • Wombat Creek campground
  • Careys Peak (via Corker trail)
  • Rocky Crossing walk

For more information on the closure visit the FCNSW website. The road re-opening date is not known at this stage.

Alternate access via Chichester State Forest (Allyn River) may be available but is subject to regular flooding and varied road conditions.

Rocky Crossing walk will be closed aboveBlue Gum loop from Monday 5 September 2022 due to track works.

Williams River picnic area and Blue Gum loop walk will remain open but take care onBlue Gum loop as contractors may be operating in the area. Follow onsite signage and directions from staff and contractors. The closure is expected to last approximately four weeks, weather-dependant.

Jerusalem Creek trail will be closed below the falls viewing platform from Monday 5 September 2022 due to track works. The southern carpark will also be closed during these works. This closure is expected to last approximately three weeks, depending on weather. Jerusalem Creek picnic area and the walk to the falls will remain open during this time.

Other incidents: Main access roadto Barrington Tops Plateau closed from Gloucester

The main access roadto Barrington Tops Plateau from Gloucester has been closed byNSW Forestry Corporationuntil further notice due to serious damage caused during aweather event.

You can only access campgrounds and visitor precincts located on the plateau from the western side via Scone. Barrington Tops Forest Road (also known as the Scone-Gloucester Road) isclosed between Cobark Park picnic areaand Dilgry Circle intersection. There is noaccess from Gloucester to Scone on thisroad.

Road re-openingdates are unknown at this stage, however NSW Forestry Corporation isworking on restoring the road. This media release has more information.

Safety alerts: Notice of 1080 aerial baiting program

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is conducting an ongoing ground and aerial baiting program in Barrington Tops National Park from Sunday 31 July to Monday 30 January 2023.

The operation will use 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison for the control of wild dogs and foxes.

The program is designed to minimise predator impacts on wildlife, especially threatened species and to minimise impact of wild dogs on neighbouring stock.

Signs will be placed at the entry to the baiting location. Domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. Pets and working dogs may be affected (1080 is lethal to cats and dogs). Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled in the vicinity and must not enter the baiting location. In the event of accidental poisoning seek immediate veterinary assistance.

Safety alerts: 4WD or SUV recommended for Gloucester Tops Road in wet weather

NPWS recommends that access to Gloucester Tops Road past the campground should be via 4WD or SUV only, during wet weather. The combination of on-going wet weather and recent roadworks has meant some sections of the road may becoming slippery in wet conditions.

Closed areas: Winter closure of 4WD trails

The following 4WD access trails are closed to vehicles from Monday 30 May 2022 due to the annual winter closure:

  • Barrington trail (south and central)
  • Paddys Ridge trail
  • Bullock Brush trail
  • Butchers Swamp trail
  • Thunderbolts trail (between Barrington Tops Forest Road and Pheasants Creek Road)
  • Tugalow trail

The following areas also closed to vehicles during this time:

  • Junction Pools, Little Murray and Gummi Falls campgrounds
  • Associated walking tracks, lookouts and facilities

You can still access all these campgrounds, walking tracks, lookouts and facilities on foot or by bicycle.

Closed areas: Phytophthora quarantine area - Barrington Tops National Park

Phytophthora is a mould that causes dieback in plants. It's been found on the plateau in Barrington Tops National Park, predominantly on the Watergauge trail between Beean Beean and Black Swamp. The affected area is under quarantine with absolutely no visitor access.

Phytophthora is readily spread by mud carried by walkers' shoes and mountain-bike tyres. There are boot wash stations across the plateau for walkers to use, to ensuretheir boots 'Start clean, Stay clean'.

Closed parks: Reserves closed due to severe weather event

A number of National Parks and Wildlife Service reserves will be closed to vehicles until further notice due to damage from severe weather event. These include:

  • Berrico National Reserve
  • The Glen National Reserve

Landslips, collapsed bridges and culverts and hazardous trees have been reported across many areas. For your safety, please avoid these reserves until damage assessments can be made and any safety issues rectified.
