Racing League tips: Templegate picks for EVERY race as £2m winner-take-all series reaches blockbuster final at Newcastle (2023)

MATT CHAPMAN is backing up his brash talk with results - and on the brink of landing the £2million Racing League title.

Sun Racing's star columnist and captain of Team London and The South has built up a 36 point cushion at the top of the table.

Trainer Jamie Osborne and his Wales and The West - who will have Frankie Dettori among their ranks on Thursday night - are in close pursuit.

Dettori will look to the Milton Harris-trained Postmark, a horse owned by Harry Redknapp, to give him another win in the League.

And Osborne warned: "We will be giving it our all. We have five jockeys heading up there and 14 horses.

"Some of them have been held back for this meeting so that we can finish with a strong squad.

"We are hopeful that we can knock the smile off Matt Chapman’s face."

While Chapman, who also fronts the coverage on TV - on At The Races and ITV - fired back: "I am very conscious that we are not over the line yet.

"That said, I am desperate to hold on because I know it will haunt Jamie Osborne for the rest of his life if he has to play second or third best to me in Racing League."

There's also a heck of a lot of cash on the line.

There is £2m up for grabs in all, with every three-year-old race on the night carrying a £50,000 purse.

Every two-year-old race has £25,000 prize money and it is all distributed among the owners, trainers and jockeys.

A £50,000 bonus will go to the winning team, £20,000 to the top jockey and £5,000 to each of the winning team's seven jockeys.

Teams The East, North, Scotland, Yorkshire and Ireland look to all be playing for the minor places.

So, who should YOU back to make a few quid on the night?

Sun Racing's top tipster Templegate goes through every race below and reveals his tip.

And we also take one final look at who to put in your fantasy team for bragging rights among your mates.

Templegate's tips

POSTMARK can make Frankie Dettori’s journey north worthwhile.

He scored at Ffos Las and Lingfield before going close here last time. He should have no problem with this step up in distance.

True Courage looks a threat after scoring at Kempton, while Scampi is looking for a winning hat-trick over this trip.

TREGONY can land a winning hat-trick after scoring at Lingfield and here last time out.

She clearly gets on well with Saffie Osborne, who is good value for her 3lb claim, and she looks hard to beat again.

Eeetee is in flying form and landed a comfortable success at York last week. If he can repeat that on the all-weather, he’ll be a major danger.

MENAI BRIDGE will be hard to cross.

He got the job done very nicely over course and distance three Thursdays ago and can go in again for league leaders London & South from just 4lb higher.

He has a cracking record on the all-weather and Daniel Muscutt can boot him home to stretch his team’s lead at the top of the table.

Galiac was just pipped here last time and comes from an in-form training team.

Course form counts for a lot here and FRESH HOPE showed her liking for the place when winning last time.

She had just a neck to spare but had to come from a mile back, which isn’t easy at Gosforth Park. She can strike a blow for Team East.

Frankie rides Out From Under who went close at Newmarket and Ascot before scoring easily at Kempton latest. He’s up 6lb for that but will be competitive again.

NEVER JUST A DREAM last ran in a Group 2 and should find this a good deal easier.

That was flying too high - but he earlier won at Wolverhampton and has a nice weight for this handicap debut.

Ignac Lamar likes the all-weather and followed a Wolver success with a neck second at Kempton last time.

A repeat of that would give him every chance.

HONKY TONK MAN ran out of petrol when beaten less than a length here last time.

This drop back in trip can see a return to the winners’ enclosure to keep Jamie Osborne’s Wales and West team in the hunt.

Temple Bruer needs a little luck thanks to his hold-up style but it all came together nicely at Doncaster last week and he’s only 1lb higher here.

MANY A STAR has been consistent this season and followed a Goodwood win with two solid seconds, including at Ascot last time out.

That effort came over this minimum trip and he looks handicapped for another big run.

Elanora ran well on the beach at Laytown last week when second. He likes this trip and has had some help from the handicapper.

Racing League fantasy picks

Wales and The West

Osborn brings a really strong hand with a load of runners at the head of the betting - let's hope the markets are right.

Daniel Muscutt

Ray Dawson

It pays to have someone capable of getting you points in every race.

Sean Levey looks to have the jockey title wrapped up - but only has three rides on the night, albeit all at the head of the market.

Daniel Muscutt and Ray Dawson have a ride in every race and look capable of banging in some valuable points.

5.45 Postmark

Trainer Milton Harris is confident step up in trip will suit and has Dettori in the saddle.

6.15 Geremia

Meets Tregony - who he narrowly lost to last time out - on 3lb better terms after being slowly away.

6.45 Galiac

Strong race. The selection goes back up against Menai Bridge 4lb better off and with stronger form behind him.

7.15 Buckshaw Village

Ran out a convincing winner at 14-1 when last seen on first run since being gelded and on AW debut - loads more to come.

7.45 Yacowlef

Has impressed in stronger races than this and can go close on handicap debut under Levey.

8.15 Badri

Won cosily here on last run, barely asked a question, and although up the weights can find more on a track that suits his style.

8.45 Faustus

Beaten a head over course and distance last time. Up 2lbs but with a cleaner break can score a deserved success.
